Karen McAnany Hatcher, 58, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to Robert Barton McAnany and Joyce Wright McAnany, Karen grew up in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She was a Florida girl at heart.
Karen graduated from Florida State University in 1987, with a BS in Communications. She was president of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, where she developed life-long friendships. After college, Karen utilized her leadership skills with both First Union Bank and Bank of America, as a college recruiter and a Senior Vice President of Human Resources, respectively. While working in Charlotte, NC, Karen met Joseph (Joe) McPhail Hatcher, Jr. on a blind date. They were married in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on March 29, 2003. A move to Raleigh followed, where Karen retired from the corporate world and became a mother to Elizabeth Jane and Joseph. Being a wife and a mother were Karen’s greatest joys.
Her servant’s heart was evident in her community involvement. Karen was active in her children’s schools, volunteered in the children’s program with Bible Study Fellowship, and worked on the children’s ministry team at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh. She was a beloved member of The Green Thumb Garden Club, serving as president and treasurer. In the last year, Karen served faithfully on the prayer team at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, where she and her family are members.
Karen lived a life rooted in faith. Her thankful heart, positive approach to all things, and gift of hospitality were blessings she shared freely. She loved the Florida sunshine, having her ‘toes in the sand’, all kinds of music, a good concert, and chardonnay with friends and family.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, Marguerite and Luther Wright; Bernice and Mark McAnany.
