Mr. Wooten was born on July 9, 1938 in Dunn, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Marvin and Nellie Wooten.
A graduate of Westbrook High School, Mr. Wooten had a long career with Colonial Stores/Big Star Foods, retiring as a vice president with the Raleigh division. He also worked with Southeast Frozen Foods as a national sales representative. For the past 15 years he was a sales representative for La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries.
Mr. Wooten was an ordained deacon at Millbrook Baptist Church and was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. He enjoyed participating in several community Bible studies.
Survivors include his wife, Shelby; children, Cindy (Mike) Pare, Jeff Wooten, Sheila (Tom) Brown; granddaughters, Amanda (Allen) Gibbs, Emma Pare, Anna and Lydia Brown; great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Connor Gibbs.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, March 12 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. Visitation will be held beginning at 1 p.m. at the church.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Roy Cromartie and the staffs of the Cancer Centers of North Carolina and Rex Hospital for their loving care and support during J.D.’s illness.
