June Miller Wood, 88, of Raleigh died Monday, January 19, 2015. She was born in Penryn, PA, and was raised on a farm. She lived with a family in Palmyra, PA. so she could attend high school in town. She then worked as a telephone operator in Indian Town Gap where she met her husband. Beginning in 1951 her life became a whirlwind of moves: Fort Devins, MA in 1951; Eritrea, Africa in 1954; Two Rock Ranch, CA in 1956; Fort Dix, NJ in 1957; Catoti, CA and Okinawa in 1960; Fairfax, VA in 1963; Frankfurt, Germany in 1967; back to Fairfax in 1969; finally arriving in Raleigh, NC in 1991. In Raleigh she joined Amazing Graces at Grace Lutheran Church, volunteered at WakeMed for several years, and turned her daughter’s yard into a beautiful garden.
During the early years of her retirement, June returned to Pennsylvania to stay with an aunt who was dying of cancer. She then helped a cousin recuperate from knee surgery. She continued to travel visiting relatives and friends. She especially liked visiting when grandchildren were born. She raised five (5) children and has eight (8) grandchildren and ten (10) great grandchildren.

her children, Dianne Wood Keyser, Barbara Jo Wood Brookman (Joseph), Louis Charles Wood (Pamela), Alan Ryan Wood, and Judi Wood Guttsen (Marty); her grandchildren, Eric Keyser, Barbara Keyser, Adam Brookman, Elliot Wood, Monica Bailey, Corey French (Alexandra), Chloe French (Rosa), and Payton Brittingham; great Grandchildren, DeKeyth Stroud, Bailey Ellis, Tristan Keyser, Aiden Keyser, Nicholas Bailey, Gabriel Bailey, Avery Bailey, Carson Guttsen, and Cameron Guttsen.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11am at Grace Lutheran Church, 5010 Six Forks Rd. The family will receive following the service at the church.
