Julie was born June 24, 1960, in Wauwatosa, WI to Geraldine and Gordon Ische. Julie attended Wauwatosa West High School where she excelled on bass clarinet and was captain of the girls’ basketball and tennis teams. Her love of learning took her to the University of Wisconsin where she studied business and then on to American University, in Washington, D.C. where she found her passion and earned a master’s degree in Performing Arts Management. Julie had a special interest and love of the works of Georgia O’Keefe, believed in the power of education and that the arts make the world a better place. She dedicated her career to advancing the arts and sciences working in the foundation development offices for The National Opera, The American Association of the Advancement of Sciences, The National Academy of Sciences, The National Children’s Museum, and George Washington University.
Living in Arlington, VA during her working years, Julie lived a life rich in friends and family. That richness deepened when she met John Alarie in 2006. Julie and John were married in 2019. Both recently retired, Julie and John moved to Pittsboro, NC in 2023 to be closer to family.
In addition to a successful career, Julie was an avid, nationally ranked tennis player. She returned to her Wisconsin roots yearly to spend time with people she loved in a place she loved – Door County. Julie was looking forward to time bird watching, hoping to catch a glimpse of some rare species.
