Jule Nelson McDowell, 71, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away on July 31, 2024, following a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. A Southerner through and through, Jule hailed from Anderson, South Carolina and built his own family and community in North Carolina.
Jule was an avid outdoorsman, often to be found on a golf course or waist-deep in a mountain stream, having retired from over 30 years in the flooring business. He was a dedicated member of the Psycho Fly Fishers and a talented fly-tier, spending many hours making his own flies, teaching fly-tying classes, telling tall tales and cooking massive meals for his fellow Psycho Fly Fishers on their regular camping trips.
Jule’s legacy is one of compassion, kindness, and laughter. And of course, food. He always knew what to say to make everything okay, and he knew how much could be solved with a home-cooked meal and a friendly conversation. Most importantly, he always took the time to care for people in need, never hesitating to lend an empathetic ear or share his wisdom.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Betsy, daughter Morgan, and sons Colin and Ryan. He was also a beloved brother-in-law, uncle, and cousin to a large extended family.
Jule was his wife’s soulmate, his children’s hero, a fierce friend, and had a special impact on everyone he met. He left us too soon and his loss leaves a void in so many lives and hearts. But every time we cook a meal for those we love or show kindness to a stranger, he’s still with us.
We invite you to celebrate Jule’s life on September 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at First Cary United Methodist Church, 117 S. Academy St., Cary, NC, 27511.
Tight lines, Streamer.
