Joyce Post Sanders

Born March 6, 1934, in Milwaukee, WI., Joyce was the daughter of the late Marvin and Mildred Post, and was one of five siblings, three sisters, June, Phyllis and Lois and one brother, Chuck, all predeceasing her.

Joyce moved to Raleigh the late 1950’s and was employed by W.H. King Drug Company. She was married for over 40 years to Thomas B. Sanders, Jr. who passed away in 2012. Joyce and Tom were active as a couple in the Amran Temple in Raleigh and members of Westminster Presbyterian Church on Whitaker Mill Road. Following an accident that limited Tom’s mobility, Joyce opted to spend her time making sure Tom was cared for and facilitating his continued desires to work and hunt.

Joyce has two step children, Gary Douglas Sanders of Raleigh and Gayle Katherine Sanders of Raleigh and Bald Head Island, NC. Additionally, Joyce is survived by nieces and nephew from the Post family and a sister-in-law all living in the Milwaukee, WI area.

The Sanders Family wishes to thank Betty Lewis, Joyce’s friend and companion caretaker for years, the staff at Brighton Gardens, Duraleigh Road and Transitions LifeCare, a Hospice of Wake County palliative care division.

A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, N.C. Tuesday, March 1, at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am preceding the service. Internment at will take place at Raleigh Memorial Park, family only, following the service. Facial coverings will be required during the visitation and service.
