Joyce Ann Ball, 78; formerly of Endicott, NY passed away after a short illness on July 16, 2018 at the Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. She was predeceased by her parents Francis and Monna (Huffine) Johnson; husband John Ball; grandson Alex Gasper, brother Jerry Clark. She is survived by her son Ronald (Yvonne) Pechanek, Jr. Roanoke, VA; daughters Laurie (Phil) Scheben, Lady Lake, FL and Hollie (Thomas) Gasper, Raleigh, NC, four grandchildren, Chris “CJ” Ballog; Zachary, Valerie and Lacey Gasper; her sister Patty, brother Jon; brother-in-law Duane (Cindy) Ball; many special cousins, friends and her ex-husband Ronald Pechanek Sr.
Joyce graduated from Binghamton North High School and then from Broome Community College with a degree in nursing. She then spent many years as an ICU nurse at Lourdes Hospital helping numerous people in their time of need. Joyce eventually retired from nursing to pursue a career as a real estate agent with Edward J Farrell Realty. She loved helping people realize their dreams of owning their first home or finding a new place to enjoy their lives.
Once fully retired; Joyce moved to The Villages in Lady Lake, FL. She easily made new friends and it led her to become a member of the ladies Red Hats club. Joyce thoroughly enjoyed the comradery associated with it as well as being able to dress up in her favorite color; red. Joyce also enjoyed bowling, bird watching and spending time with her family. She remained in The Villages until the summer of 2015 after which she moved to Raleigh to live with daughter Hollie and her family.
Joyce lived a vibrant and colorful life. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, attended many of their school and sporting events and tell them about her family history which included the famous Getty Herschel (“Tuck”) Huffine.
The family would like to extend a warm and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kevin Shah, his team as well as the nurses, especially Angela and Kate in the critical care unit of Duke University hospital; for their compassionate care and concern during Joyce’s final days.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday July 19th from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609. Interment will follow shortly thereafter in the Raleigh Memorial Cemetery, Raleigh, NC.
