Joseph “Joe” Tilman Swails, 92, of Raleigh completed his earthly journey on Wednesday October 17, 2018 with his loving wife Sue by his side. Completing their wedding vows after 48 wonderful years of marriage.
Joe was a metallurgist and engineer enjoying many years of his cherished occupation until his retirement from IBM in 1990.
His three most precious things in life were his family, service to his country and his beloved Louisiana State University Tigers. Joe was a Graduate of LSU.
Joe is survived by his wife Sue, son, Brian and his wife Barbara, Joseph, Jr. and Katherine; and grandchildren, Barrett, Bailey, Beckett, and Bella.
He served proudly in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard and is a veteran of World War II.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018 in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh NC. Entombment will follow with Military Honors at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum with a reception immediately afterward at Mitchell Funeral Home.
