Joseph "Joe" Mims passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 2, 2022. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend to those who knew and loved him. He was born in Raleigh on June 23, 1934, the older of twin boys.
He was predeceased in 2003 by his identical twin brother, Howard "Boots" Mims who was his lifelong best friend and business partner.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, sons, Joe Mims, Jr., Jim Mims (Camille) , Jeff Mims, and John Mims. Nephew, Chip Mims (Sara), Niece Kelly Burkhardt (David) and many grandchildren, grandnieces and nephew.
He attended Hugh Morson High School, served in the US Navy aboard the USS Chelan County and later graduated from Wake Forest University.
He worked passionately at building a successful beer and wine business for over 50 years, Mims Distributing Company. Joe was known for his sincere desire to establish lasting relationships with customers, clients and employees.
He gave back generously to the community including his work with the Frankie Lemmon School, Foundation for Hope, Salvation Army and Food Bank of NC.
Joe loved playing golf with his group of "Morons" as was evident by his ever present, contagious laugh. He enjoyed spending time with Linda and friends at their home in Wilmington and dining out at their favorite restaurants where he was always welcomed as a special friend.
A private family service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at North Ridge Country Club, on Tuesday, July 12th from 5pm - 7pm, casual attire is welcomed.
