Joseph, or Joe as friends called him, graduated from Broughton High School in 1945, where he served as the Vice President of the student body, and was a member of the National Honors Society. He received the nickname “the Brain,” due to his dedication to knowledge, as well as his high performance at everything he did. Joe entered the Navy in 1945 and served through 1946, leaving to enter North Carolina State University where he would go on to graduate with high honors, finishing in the top 3% out of an engineering class of 1138. Joe was a dedicated member of Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church on Six Forks Road, where he practiced his faith. He was an even better Dad, Husband, Grandad and friend to those around him. He devoted majority of his life after retiring from Westinghouse to volunteering for various local organizations, serving weekly at the soup kitchen, and teaching his family and community how to garden. Joe was so much more than words on a page can ever express, and his light now shines to guide us from his final resting place in heaven.
