Jonathan was born in Raleigh on May 23, 1982 to James Daniel “Dan” McGee and Holly Whiting Puglia. He grew up in Raleigh where he graduated from Leesville High School and later North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a lifelong fan of Wolfpack athletics.
He began his career as an intern with Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. in Raleigh, NC where he worked for 15 years. He held various roles throughout his career, most recently as engineering manager.
Having spent his childhood summers on Lake Gaston, Jonathan developed a love for boating, all water sports and fishing. He then started spending time at Atlantic Beach, NC where he became passionate about saltwater fishing and coastal life. Jon was introduced to golf by his grandparents at a very young age, and became an avid golfer. He took great pride in introducing his love for golf and the water to his wife and sons.
Jon’s family was first and foremost in his life. His devotion to his parents, brother, wife and especially his two boys was extraordinary. He never met a stranger and had many friends and work colleagues and touched so many lives with his humor and kindness. He fought a strong and courageous 3-year battle with glioblastoma. He was such a positive example of how we should live and treat one another and will be deeply missed by all.
Jon is survived by his loving wife, Angela Alston McGee, children; Mason Daniel McGee and Alston "Wade" McGee all of the home, father, James "Dan" McGee of Raleigh, mother, Holly Whiting Puglia (Paul) of Raleigh, brother, Jeffrey Daniel McGee and Lindsay Vollmin (fiancé) of Willow Springs, NC, Angela's parents, Dr. Michael Curtis Alston (Susan) of Murfreesboro, NC, and sister-in-law, Erin Alston Mintz (Jacob) of Seattle, WA.
