John graduated from the University of Louisville, Louis D. Brandeis Law School, where he was a Brandeis Scholar. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving as a Naval pilot during the Korean War. John worked in the Justice Department until 1965. He was an US Assistant District Attorney in Louisville, KY, the US Virgin Islands and partner of the Grunert and Stout Law Firm in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. John met the qualifications, to be sworn in with the US Supreme Court to argue cases and served as President of the Bar Association of the US Virgin Islands. He was the President of the US IV Scuba Dive Club, an avid tennis player and enjoyed sailing.
He is lovingly is remembered by his wife, Jeyan K. Stout, of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; son Benjamin Stout and wife Idalia, of Raleigh NC; two daughters, Patricia Stout and Melissa Stout Rumsey and husband Timothy, all of Louisville, KY. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Paige, Jesse, Matthew, Adam, Kristine, Jessica, John and Mark; and 2 great grandchildren and his daughter-in-law, Sue Stout.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother Richard Stout and daughter Martha Stout.
Memorial service will be held at a later date in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.
