He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margie Creech Stiver; his son, John W. Stiver, Jr. and wife Kathi Stiver of Raleigh; his daughter, Brenda J. Stiver of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Christopher C. Stiver, Dakota A. Stiver, Chloe Pearce, and Phillip Bachelor; four great grandchildren, Ethan, Landon, and Gabrielle Pearce and Gracie Bachelor.
John was the son of Harry Theordore Stiver and Mary Zimmerman Stiver, preceding him in death. He was the grandson of John Stiver and Mary Jyuenke also preceding him in death.
John was 2nd of 9 children. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Stiver Jr., and Robert Stiver, his sisters Mary Stiver and Jean Webb. He is survived by his brothers Frank Stiver of Dixon, Tennessee, Richard Stiver of West Manchester, Ohio, Wesley Stiver of Lewisburg, Ohio and his sister, Betty Gilbert of Mansville, Texas.
John graduated from Jefferson High School in New Paris, Ohio and was an Alumni of Valparaiso Technical Institute, Valparaiso Indiana receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering.
John was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Army where he received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars and the UN Service Medal.
John retired from IBM after 31 years of service where he worked as an Electrical Engineer.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27612 on Monday, October 20, 2014 from 6pm-8pm and one hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral Services will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home, Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 1pm with burial to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
