John McClain “Mack” Burgess passed away on September 18, 2019 at his home in Raleigh, NC. He was born on May 11, 1936 in Ramseur, NC and grew up in Bailey, NC. He was the son of the late John Milton Burgess and Elizabeth Stroup Burgess. He was predeceased by his sister, Jane Winston and her husband, Bob, and by his brother-in-laws, Jimmy Wells and Buddy Falls.
Mack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kay Falls Burgess; his son, Scott Burgess and his wife, Melanie, of Roanoke Rapids; his son, Graham Burgess and his wife, Diane, of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Kaye Burgess, Elaine Gray Burgess and Bransen Burgess, all of Raleigh, and Dylan Burgess, of Sherman Oaks, CA; his sister, Gwen Wells, of Bailey, his sister-in-law, Robin Burnette and her husband, R.G., of Atlantic Beach; his nephews, Paul and Andy Winston, of Texas, and Dave Wells of Bailey; his niece, Doris Brantley of Bailey; and his sister-in-law, Sandy French, of New Bern.
A memorial service celebrating Mack’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23 at Highland United Methodist Church in Raleigh, and the family will greet friends immediately afterwards.
