December 2nd, 1924 - April 6th, 2017
John Hinsdale (Hinky) Joslin, 92, son of Harold Vincent Joslin and Anne (Annie) Devereux Hinsdale Joslin was a lifelong resident of Raleigh who grew up as one of the original "Cameron Crazies" in Cameron Park passed away April 6th at home.
Hinky was a graduate of NB Broughton High School and NC State University. Locally known for his prowess on the diamond, he earned the opportunity to play baseball in the Boston Braves organization, which led to stops in Richmond, Evansville, Bluefield, and ending with the Raleigh Capitals in 1951.
Hinky was drafted into WWII in 1943, where he served honorably in the Marine Corp. During the battle of Iwo Jima he was wounded and was honored with being awarded the Purple Heart.
Hinky was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Joslin, sister, Nell Styron, and brothers, Devereux and William Joslin and his wife of 58 years, Carolyn S. Joslin. He is survived by son John Hinsdale Joslin, Jr and his wife Carmen and son Smith Alexander Joslin and his wife Kelly, his grandchildren: Ashley Alexander Joslin, Catherine Anne Joslin, John Hinsdale Joslin III, Wyatt Alexander Joslin and Dixie Alexandra Joslin.
The family will have a time of visitation from 9:00am -10:00am Saturday, April 15th at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home 300 St Mary's St. Raleigh, NC. Memorial service will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
