He was a graduate of the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the basketball and golf teams. After graduating from the University of Virginia Law School, he practiced as an attorney in Roanoke, VA until his retirement in 2003. He moved to Raleigh in 2004 with his wife.
Mr. Haner is survived by his wife, Pamela Haner; his brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Helen Haner; his daughters, Elizabeth Haner and Melanie Reynolds; his son and daughter-in-law, Frank, Jr. and Lisa Haner; and his four grandchildren, William Haner, Jack and Charlotte Reynolds, and Evelyn "Evie" Haner.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Virginia Law School Foundation or Student Aid Foundation, or to the Nature Conservancy. The memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Brier Creek Country Club.
