He was born June 17, 1927 in California. Jack served in the US Navy, and after leaving the military, graduated from Stanford University and the Duke University Medical School Class of 1955. He began his medical career at Duke, where they sent him to the Karolinska Institute in Sweden to study interventional Neuroradiology. After he returned to Durham, he introduced this specialty to the South, teaching at Duke for the next 33 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Suzanne Long Goree (Suzy), and family, John Goree (Katherine) of La Jolla, California, and Conrad Goree of Durham, Greg Jurgensen (Izzy) of Basalt, Colorado and Scott Jurgensen (Sylvia) of Raleigh.
He was devoted to the family dogs, nature, and specifically trees. His vast array of interests included writing limericks, history, art history articles, NC Coastal maps, and was published in many medical journals. One book, Going for the Jocular, on medical humor, was published in 2021. With all of his accomplishments, his humorous view of life was his most endearing memory.
