John Halcutt Dixon of Raleigh, NC died peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the age of 91. He was born in Browns Summit, NC (Guilford County) on February 4, 1924. He was a veteran of the Air Force and served in the China Burma India Theatre during World War II. He attended NC State University in Raleigh and retired from E. F. Craven Company after 40 years.
John was an active member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church serving as an usher for many years and previously as a member of the Board of Trustees. He was a golf enthusiast at Raleigh Golf Association and an avid Wolfpack fan. Until late in his life, he enjoyed being a member of the Raleigh Sports Club.
John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha Thomas Dixon; daughter Dianne D. Piland and her husband Reg of Oriental, NC; daughter Brenda D. Worley and her husband Paul of Bond, CO; and grandchildren Emily M. Piland of Laguna Niguel, CA; Joanna P. Price of Mechanicsville, MD and her husband Craig; and Chelsea L. Worley of Steamboat Springs, CO and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, James M. Dixon and his wife Becky of Browns Summit, NC and many loving nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11:00AM at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service at the church.
