John was born August 21, 1923 in Raleigh, NC to the late William Bailey and Harriett Alston Bailey. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army and recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds he received at the Battle of the Bulge. John was a graduate of Virginia Episcopal School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received certificates from Parsons School of Design, New York and Fontainebleau School of Fine Arts, France. John was in the Design business for over forty-five years. After retirement, he pursued art and writing and authored two books, “Men of Aspirations” and “Musings for the Mind”. He was a member of the NC Society of the Cincinnati and the American Institute of Design.
John is survived by his sister, Martha Bailey of Raleigh; and a host of cousins.
A graveside service will be held 2pm Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27601. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Haywood Hall, 211 New Bern, Raleigh, N.C.
