Joanne Gorley Hewitt Mahlum

Joanne Hewitt Mahlum of Raleigh passed away on March 1st at the age of 68. Joanne devoted her life to taking care of her family and bringing joy and love to all that she knew. Her ability to love is evidenced in the many, many lives she touched and influenced over the years, specifically the friends of her children who she was constantly “mothering”.

She is survived by her husband Robert and children Jennifer Mahlum, Kristin Ware and husband Ashby, and David Mahlum and wife Fairley. She was known as Grammy to her grandchildren that she adored; Lindsey, Jake, and Megan Ware and Annabel and Robert “Bert” Mahlum. Joanne is also survived by her lifelong best friend Bobbie DeSarno and siblings Jack Hewitt, Frank Hewitt, and Jane Cole as well as Robert’s siblings and spouses and her many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Loretta and Jack Hewitt, grandmother Ann McLaughlin and niece Anne Mahlum.

A celebration of her life will be at Woodhaven Baptist Church in Apex on Tuesday March 4th at 3:00 and the family will receive friends and family one hour prior at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rex Healthcare Cancer Center Funds in Raleigh, NC.
