Joan was born June 8, 1941, in Flushing, NY to the late Louis and Rose Persusiello. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in Brooklyn , NY in 1958 and went on to attended the New York City College of Technology where she earned her associates degree in 1960. Upon graduating, she began work at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, NY as a certified medical technician. Joan retired from Mercy Hospital in 2006 after 46 years of dedication and service. During those years, she worked in the lab and the blood bank, where she held the position of a supervisor and trained many new employees over the years.
Since moving to this area in 2016, Joan has been an active part of the Carolina Arbor's community.
She sang in the CA choir. She was an avid photographer, painter, chef, baker and gardener.
She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to Daniel, her husband of 57 years, Joan is survived by her son Martin, and his wife Kristy; grandchildren, Taylor and Ethan; and her sister, Anita DiGirolamo.

A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Raleigh, Father James Singarayar pesided. Burial followed in Raleigh Memorial Park.
