Joan Kelly, 92, passed away peacefully on June 2, surrounded by her loving husband Walter of 64 years, children, and grandchildren. Born in Rockville Centre, Long Island, and later residing in Raleigh, North Carolina, Joan was a devout wife, mother, and grandmother who always put the needs of others ahead of her own.
Joan was known for her compassionate nature, giving spirit, and great sense of humor. She touched the lives of many with her warm and loving personality. Joan loved a good time, often dancing to the tunes of Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, and Frank Sinatra. She was the beloved matriarch of an extended family, cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan is preceded in death by her brothers William and Thomas Meehan, and her sisters Mary Vollkommer and Jean Henske.
A devoted mother, she is survived by her sons Walter (Lynne) Kelly of Rockville Centre, William (Phyllis) Kelly of Rockville Centre, and John Kelly (Trish) of Garden City; her daughters Kathleen K. Housey (Mark Riser) of East Hampton and Maureen Baker (Brian) of Raleigh, North Carolina. Joan was also a cherished grandmother to 15 grandchildren who adored spending time with her, playing cards, and seeking her wisdom and comfort. Additionally, she was a beloved great-grandmother to 4 great-grandchildren.
Joan's life was a testament to love, kindness, and generosity. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.
