Dr. Pittman was ONE OF A KIND! Everyone who has ever consulted him will sing praises forever! He could diagnose and treat conditions no else could - with the most natural and least invasive methods!

I just learned of Dr. Pittman's death.   i cannot say enough about him as a doctor.  I found him to be the most caring physician that I ever had the privilege of knowing.   He did SO much for our family.  I am so sorry for your loss and ours.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Jerry. I had the opportunity to work with him while I was stationed at Womack Army Medical center in 1982.  I was just a young medical special fresh out of school and I had the opportunity to work along side him there and he taught me so much.  I did not have a car and he made sure I got home safely.  I remember making him a traditional mexican plate of food and he would always ask me when was I cooking mexican food again. Be at peace.  Jerry was truly a friend of mine. Travis Young El Paso, TX

Jerry was my roommate at Montevallo when he was a sophomore and I was a freshman, 1969-70. We sang Simon & Garfunkel songs together and we were rivals to see who could display the most outlandish sense of humor. He beat me hands down. One day he hung a plastic dollar sign on the mirror in our room. When I asked him why, he said, "When people stop by, I want to see if they will actually bow down and worship it." I've never met anyone who was more compassionate, down to earth, and just plain fun to be around.

Darlene, Jerry and I were friends during our freshman year at U of M. I am sorry for your loss and know "where you are" since I lost my husband of 42 years to cancer in May 2013. I regularly contribute to the Carter Center and will make my next contribution in his honor.

I just learned of Jerry's passing.  Although I feel sad as I will miss this wonderful friend from whom I learned so much I am glad he is at peace.  Love to you who loved him so much.

Jerry's presence on this earth is hard to describe. A saint, a godsend, a compassionate heart. May the universal light hold you now and always. Love to Darlene and Kassi.

Darlene & Kassi - you know how very special Jerry was - to you, to family, to his patients, to his students and fellow travelers on the path. I was honored to have his friendship, his care when I was ill, and guidance when I needed it dealing with this life or a past one. His generous nature was dwarfed only by his huge heart. His hugs were legendary, his laugh infectious, the depth of his caring boundless. And now he soars, his contract done. He is beside you both always. He will reach out to all of us who loved and knew him. And we will tell the stories... always the stories.

We met Jerry when we bought our bookstore in Stonehenge Market in 1996. We dedicated a section in our bookstore to "Dr. Pittman Recommends..." His patients (actually they were more FRIENDS than patients)  would come in asking "where do I find Dr. Pittman's section?" 
Jerry was such a giving person. One of our employees was worried about some health problems and Jerry had him come to Tremont and he took care of him - NO CHARGE!
One of many fond memories we have of Jerry is when he came to our store on Christmas Eve and we said, "you look just like Santa" he laughed and said "I just might be!!!" We have so many fond memories of Jerry that will be with us always.

My wife @ I started at Tremont in the early 80,s.  He was the best, I have had several strokes @ wife had a bad heart.  He cared for us in the best wonderful way, never in a hury, just took care & advised us.  When he left Trmont I was at a lost , we just did not missed a Doctor but a wonderful man.  It was a joy to be in his present, may the Lord be with this wonderful man.

May your continued existence in the afterlife be beautiful! You are the best Uncle a girl could have ever hoped for. I will always love you!

Dear Darlene and Kassi, I remember hearing of you two when my son and I were active patients with 
Tremont Medical.  Through Jerry, we became involved in the Cherokee Nation activities, made many long lasting friends.  When we first met, my husband had just died (over 20 years ago) and Jerry was always there for hooking up with positive male role models for my 9 year old.  Tremont was our go-to place for anything. Dr. Jerry Pittman, an Angel send by God. It was Easter Sunday 1993 when I discover that my almost 90 year old mother was sick. Born in Colombia, SA. and retired from The Air Force there she was living with me in Raleigh. She has no medical insurance and she was here with a Tourist Visa. I knew that something was very wrong and all I tough about was taking her to the Treatmont Center where I had been many times before. As soon as I get there with her Dr. Pittman became her angel. My mother didn't spoke one word of English and he didn't spoke Spanish but it was an instant love, trust and a way of communicating with each other that last until the day my mother left us. When he send her for test and we arrived at the Lab, HE WAS THERE! and he was there for every thing my mother need it. He will come to the house just to embrace her and tell her he love her. I had never experience so much love and compassion in a doctor. I have to add that I never pay one penny for any of her test or his visitations. He understood the situation and just took my mother under his care. My mom pass away after a pancreatic cancer that according with the nurses that took care of her it was unseen. She never experience pain or any of the symptoms that come with this. She had a very strong faith that carry her trough but she also have a DOCTOR that with his hugs and love bright her every day. Dr. Pittman, I know that now you are receiving all the rewards for what you plant trough out your life. May your Soul rest peacefully in the arms of God and in the company of all the departed that knew you by name.

I would like to add one more thing about our beloved Jerry and Darlene and Kassi. Our youngest son always said about them "They're more fun than normal people." And that was his greatest compliment to them. To know the Pittmans was to be in the presence of truly wonderful, unusual people who definitely were so much more fun than normal people.
Our annual vacations to Cobbly Nob in Gatlinburg, TN were what we called the Yub Yub festivals. I smile just remembering those wonderful times and the outrageous fun times we all had together. My husband built Jerry and Darlene's house for them which took about nine months. During those nine months, my husband Jack, would fly home to Florida where we had moved, every month. For my husband to be away from us for such a length of time is testament to what a loving friendship we had and testament to the joy and wonder that is the Pittmans. We were family, and Jerry's presence will be felt in our family until we are gone too. We'll miss his booming laughter, his kindness and so many other wonderful things about him and we'll be forever grateful for the over thirty years of joy he brought us. He, Darlene and Kassi remain in our hearts always and forever.

Saying I'm deeply saddened to learn of Jerry's passing is more than understatement, it's barely an acknowledgement.  Although I hadn't seen him in many, many years, Jerry was, and will always remain, one of the biggest and most important influences on my life.  He not only inspired me with his intellect and overwhelmed me with his generosity, he cultivated in me a deep love of music and so many years ago, when I was only 13 or14, he taught me the skills to be able to express that love.  I will always be thankful for that and for having had the privilege to know such a great man.  Every remaining note I play for the rest of my life will be a tribute to Jerry.  

"Goin' home, goin' home, by the riverside I will rest my bones, 
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul."

My most sincere and genuine condolences go out to the two most important people in Jerry's life, Darlene and Kassi.  Whenever Jerry spoke your names, it was always with such a monumental sense of love and pride.

Jerry was not only an “Old Soul”, he was a “Jolly Old Soul”. I first met Jerry in the 80's when he became our family doctor.  My three sons immediately began referring to him as “Santa”. I had no idea at the time how right they were.  For the next two dozen years, as we went from patients to close friends, Jerry bestowed us with the greatest gifts possibly imaginable. 

Jerry was most definitely a powerful testimony of what God's Grace working in and through him could do for others.  Just his presence sent a message of faith and hope. He radiated a sense of peace, love, understanding, wisdom, joy, and compassion.  What a wonderful gift to the world! 

Right from the beginning we realized Jerry was a doctor like no other.  He was always way behind schedule and often jokingly referred to himself as the “Late Dr. Pittman”. His regular patients never complained because they knew no matter how far behind schedule he was, when it was their turn, he'd be totally present, giving them all of his time and undivided attention, listening, explaining, answering questions   “What a gift!  And that gift was not restricted to office hours in his clinic.  As my boys grew into adults and moved away, they would often call Jerry from all over the world for medical advice of some sort, and get the same exact time and attention.

Another special gift I learned from Jerry is that “a hug is better than a drug!”  And what a great person to hug, just like a big cuddly teddy bear.  For the past 20 years, every time I saw Jerry, we'd greet and depart with a hug—not the usual quick gesture, but a silent, lingering embrace where I would almost melt into him and just breathe.  And all was right in the world!  Unlike any other, Jerry could call me very early in the morning and wake me from a deep sleep—and at the end of our talk, my first thought would be, “What a wonderful way to start my day!”

Through Jerry, I had the privilege of meeting many of his amazing friends and colleagues and through his marvelous stories, I felt like I got to know many more, though we haven't actually met in person.  To all of you, I send my love and respect.  I can't help but think that you would all agree that the best gift Jerry gave us is one that came so naturally, yet is so very rare and precious.  This is the gift of making us each feel so special to him. How could one person have so many “best friends”?  (I must admit, however, that in his
heart, Sparky was probably his “closest” friend.)
 
Jerry, though I  miss you, I must admit I'm just a bit envious that you're back in a place of PURE LOVE and TRUTH and now have all the answers to everything we shared time theorizing about.

Happy trails to you until we meet again! I look forward to our future adventures together.

Dr. Pittman changed my life. He offered a pregnant 18 year old girl working the drive though at McDonalds a job. He opened doors for me that would have never been visible. He saw something in me that I could not see. I can never thank him enough for giving me a chance to prove I am worth it. You are truly an angle and love an miss you.

Jerry, Darlene and their daughter Kassi have been our dear friends but more than that. We were like family. There is so much I could say about Jerry but there would never be enough space to say it all, how he touched our lives and how much we loved him. He gave new meaning to the word unique. He was one of a kind and his big heart was filled with love. I am in total shock right now. The world is a much poorer place without our beloved friend, Jerry, in it. The vacations our two families took together in Gatlinburg are some of my fondest memories. He was my two boys' godfather,"christening" them in an informal ceremony in a stream in North Carolina. Our hearts are broken.
 
Jerry had said at one time that he would die at age 52 so we're happy that he made it past that but we would want another 52 years. He and my husband were best friends. We were also the unofficial godparents of Kassi. Although we moved to Florida and they remained in North Carolina,our hearts were always together, and there will be a huge void there now. Our hearts go out to Darlene and Kassi. We are just so sad.

 Dr. Jerry Pittman was a most beloved friend of the W.B. Bragg family.   His loving care went way beyond the usual as he treated our entire famliy as though we were his family.  He was a treasure to all of us.  His kindnesses will forever be loving memories.

The earth sighed as he gently passed from this life to rebirth.
And people cried when they heard the news the masterful mender transgressed.
I, near and wide, will forever feel the booming howl of his heartiness.
He newly resides among dulcet sounds made sweet by his infinite mirth.

In 1980 we moved to Raleigh and shortly there after we were fortunate enough to to have Treemont Medical Center and Dr.Jerry Pittman in our lives.  Not only did he take care of all individuals in our immediate family but visiting family members as well.  He was a knowledgable physician and a kind and generous person.  Though he had not been at Tremont for sometime, every time I walked in the door I felt his presence.  He will be missed

Will never forget meeting Dr. Pittman that night on Creedmoor Rd.at Strickland Rd. We rolled up in the Ambulance from Six Forks Rescue Squad and found this bearded man in a leather jacket and jeans tending to a motorcycle accident victim. We asked him to move so we could treat and he informed us "I'm a Doctor" and proceeded to tell us what we had. That was the beginning of a long and lasting professional and patient relationship for me. Dr. Pittman "Jerry" you will be missed !!!

We felt his loss with great sadness. He was a fine man and wonderful, caring Doctor.

I remember moving to Raleigh several years ago and finding Tremont Medical Center. Dr. Pittman was the kindest knowledgeable doctor. He really listened to his patients. From that first visit I referred several folks to his office. He started a great practice and may his presence and legacy always continue and be felt by everyone who continue to walk through the doors. My he rest in peace. Dr. KR

I spoke with Jerry and Darlene on the Thursday before Jerry transitioned.  Jerr told me that he would be dying soon due to heart and kidney failure, but just as with his adventures traveling through it, his journey out of this world was anything but failure.  He told me, “They have discovered that the universe is no longer big enough to contain me.  Darlene says I am in the process of going Supernova.”  Our short “conversation” was a direct experience of that very thing despite all that was going on within his body, within the hospital room, with those reaching out to him locally and non-locally, and with his attentive engagement in the process of actively loosening his tethers to corporeal existence.  I have never felt him as more present, interconnected and heart-centered..... in that time, just by Being, without any detectable effort, he was exuding this sense of ever-deepening, ever-expanding Love and Peace.  It was truly exceptional.  Or perhaps it was just another of the many teachings from Jerry that have served to assist me and others to shift our sense of this kind of experience from the rarified realm of the exceptional... to the foundational ground from which new, previously inaccessible and unfathomable exceptionality can spring.  

In body, Jerry was both a teacher and a brother to me... and I see no possible way that could cease.  My unending love and appreciation flows out to him and all, but with particular magnitude to Darlene and Kassi.  Among so many other things, you both provided a foundational ground from which Jerry's evolving exceptionality could spring.  For that and the so many other things, I am eternally grateful.

Jerry I am going to miss all the conversations that we have had over the past almost 25 years that I have had the pleasure of working for you and Darlene.  Thank you again for all of the encouragement and helps when I found out that I had breast cancer 10 years ago.  You were such a help with keeping me thinking positive thoughts and I attribute my compete healing partly to just that.  You and Darlene were always such a blessing to me during many times in my life over the years and many thanks for answering my medicinal questions concerning my mother as well, and always ready to ask me week to week how she was doing.  It has not even been a full 7 days since you have taken your new journey but it feels like it has been such a long week.  I am so thankful for knowing you, your friendship, advice and all the treats you use to send home with me for our beloved Cain.  I promise every time I am at your house to love on Sparky and play with him and encourage Darlene and Kassi as best I can.  I truly enjoyed the time and the privilege God allowed our paths to be intertwined these past years..enjoy your rewards of being such a faithful servant and friend to all that knew you and I am sure that you will still continue to enfluence all of us as we continue on our journey here.
