Jeremiah James Nowell, Jr., 56, of Raleigh, died Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Duke University hospital of complications from multiple myeloma. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jeremiah James Nowell and Elizabeth Canady Nowell, and he is survived by his wife, Kit; their children, Sarah and Daniel and his wife, Sallie; his brother Vaughan and his wife, Anne; his sister Sara.
Jerry was known for his irreverent wit, an insatiable intellectual curiosity, and his devotion to his family. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of North Carolina in 2000, and owned Nowell’s Contemporary Furniture, which celebrated its centennial anniversary under his management. He will be remembered as a scholar, an artist, a retailer, and as a dearly beloved husband and father.
The family will receive friends and well-wishers from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 2 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home at 300 St. Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
