Jeanne The General S. Munson

Jeanne graduated high school at the age of 16, having advanced two grades in public school, and went on to Townson University, then Towson State College, and obtained a degree in elementary education, graduating in 1951.

Jeanne met her husband, Floyd, in 1950 and they were married in 1953. Jeanne spent many years moving from one spot to another with her husband’s career in the Navy and then IBM. They settled in Raleigh in 1971. Jeanne worked as a substitute teacher in Wake County at the elementary level.

Jeanne is survived by two children: Jeannette Munson Green of Ogdensburg, NY and Carl J. Munson of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren: Charles L. Smith of Douglasville, GA, Elizabeth S. Mizelle of Windsor, NC, R. Marshall Smith of Raeford, NC and Anna C. Munson of Raleigh, NC; and four great grandchildren. Jeanne was predeceased by her husband, Floyd N. Munson, her parents and one grandson, Robert L. Smith IV.

Jeanne was a member of Methodist Women of Benson Memorial Methodist Church in Raleigh for over 40 years and a member of PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization) for over 20 years. Jeanne had participated in aqua-exercise classes at the Optimist pool in Raleigh for almost thirty years and was an avid square and round dancer. Most of all, Jeanne loved her collie, Haley.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home in Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Collie Rescue of the Carolinas in Jeanne’s name, PO Box 1313 Kernersville, NC 27285 or collierescue.net.
