Jean C. Daley, 95, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2011, with her niece, Judith C. Dunn by her side. She was born on March 6, 1916, in Camden, NJ, to her parents the late Thomas and Ursala Cunningham.
She was one of God’s original characters, part Auntie Mame and part Lucille Ball. Everyone knew her as ‘Aunt Jean’, whether it was a first introduction or you knew her for a lifetime. Jean was a longtime dog lover; she collected many friends whom she enjoyed playing bridge with and with whom she shared her cooking talents. Jean and her husband Thomas were proud members of the Raleigh Country Club and the ‘Par Chasers’; she also enjoyed the friendships made with her swim group at the YMCA. ‘Aunt Jean’ will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is lovingly remembered by her niece Judith and her husband Richard J. Dunn, Jr., of Raleigh and their children Reilly, Quinn, and Eliza Dunn. She will also be dearly missed by her sister-in-law Jean Cunningham and her nephew Tom Cunningham, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Daley and her brother Thomas Cunningham.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 20th at the Chapel of Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh. The family will receive friends prior to the service. Interment will be held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.
Special thanks to the staff of Universal Healthcare of North Raleigh and to her especially kind friend Janet Weathersbee.
Memorial donations can be made to the SPCA of Raleigh, in memory of Jean.
