He was a retired professor of physics at North Carolina State University, where he also held administrative positions. He was the Vice President for Research of the UNC System from 1986 to 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hofler Memory, of Raleigh; his daughter Margaret Memory and son-in-law Derek Lane of Durham; his son Jasper William Memory and daughter-in-law Jana Siciliano of Metuchen, NJ; and granddaughters Heather and Emily Lane and Julia Memory.
A memorial service will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC, on Sunday, December 27th, at 2 pm, with a reception to follow.
