Janet Glenn Weathersbee, 78, passed away from her family and friends on Saturday March 1, 2014. She was a woman who always fought for the people and things she believed in. She was wise, creative, and artistic. Throughout the many challenges she faced in her life she always believed in the judgment, mercy, and love of God, and shared that belief with others. She loved her family, was passionate about nature and animals, and loved walks on the mountain trails, and the horses and many dogs that were part of her life. She graduated from ECU and taught elementary school. After leaving her teaching to become a full time wife and mother, she shared her knowledge and love of snakes with countless children as a speaker in elementary schools. Even in her final years she enjoyed teaching and loving her nurses who cared for her.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert I. Weathersbee, her sister Mary Green of Louisburg, NC, and her children Rhonda and husband Mark Smith, Robert Lee Weathersbee and wife Sheila, and Lynn Williams; her grandchildren Sarah Smith, Holly Smith, Renee Weathersbee, great granddaughter Alicia Scoggins and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Charles Williams.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Mitchell’s Funeral Home on Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh NC at 1:00 PM on Saturday March 8. Reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Animal Rescue (5008 Miller Drive, Durham, NC 27704) or Reptile Rescue of the Carolinas (ATTN: Zachary D'Alessio, 1334-F Wicklow Ct., Cary, NC 27511).
