Born on October 02, 1931, in Raleigh, NC, she was the daughter of the late Waylon and Beulah Dickerson. She was a Charter member of Westover United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC.
Her professional career began as a secretary in the Wake County School District. At the age of 40, she went to college and graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. She began a career as a schoolteacher until her retirement. She worked for fourteen years at the State Fair every fall. Janet loved her family and her many friends drawing great joy and pleasure from each one.
Survivors including her husband; a son, Fred Burke (Lib) of Stateburg, SC, Lou Anne Burke of Florida; Four grandsons, Rick Burke (Lisa), Charles Burke, both of Sumter, Burke Strickland (Valerie) of Trophy Club, TX, Brandon Strickland (Sara) of Conroe, TX; five great-grandchildren, Harper Annette Burke, Baylor Madison Strickland, Jordan Easton Strickland, Mia Blaine Strickland, and Preston Burke Strickland; a nephew, Howard Dickerson and niece, Sharon Dickerson.
She was preceded in death by her brother, George Howard Dickerson, and niece Debbie Dickerson.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Montlawn Memorial Park with the family officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
