J. Martin Richter, Jr. died in Raleigh on Sunday, March 12th. He was 53. Martin was born on September 3rd, 1969, in Goldsboro, NC, the son of the late James Martin Richter, Sr. and his mother, Linda Tyndall Richter of Goldsboro, who survives him.
In addition he is survived by his son, Drexel McCormick Richter; daughter, Hagen Elizabeth Richter; former wife and friend Melissa Smith Richter; sister, Kimberly Richter Smith; brother-in-law Henry Claiborne Smith, along with his nieces, nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Martin was a fun, loving, and caring man that thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was especially in his element when he was in any outdoor setting with them. Martin had such an awe and reverence for nature, its mysteries, and beauty. Sharing nature, and the lessons he learned in the outdoors, was a large part of his heart and passion in life.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 19th at 2:00 pm at Edenton Street United Methodist Church, 228 West Edenton St. Raleigh, NC 27603. A reception will follow the service in the Garden Gallery of Edenton St. UMC.
