James Richard Leonard, 80, died peacefully at his home in Raleigh on November 27, 2017. He was born on July 15, 1937 in Greensboro, NC. He previously lived in Gibsonton, FL for several years, and was a lifetime member of IISA Showmen’s Club. He served in the US Navy on the USS Hank, as a torpedoman, and was honorably discharged in 1959.
James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia; one son, Richard Leonard of Raleigh; two daughters, Teresa Leonard of Raleigh and Angie Young of Wendell; several grandchildren, step grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, December 3rd at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh. Visitation starts at 1 p.m. with the service at 2 p.m. A graveside service will take place on Monday, December 4th at 11 a.m. at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens, 770 Stadium Drive, Wake Forest.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kindred Hospice of Oxford, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association in James Leonard’s honor, if you so choose.
