In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his son, Derrick (Deborah) and daughter, Melissa; grandchildren, Davison (Chelsea), Sarah (Brad), Nathaniel, Jacob, Jana, and Vladimirs and great-grandchildren, Abigail and Isla all of Raleigh; brother, Blair (Barbara), of Chapin, SC; sister, Carolyn of Newton, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was born August 26, 1934 in Maiden, NC to the late Elsie Ikerd and John Dewey McCaslin. He played on the basketball team and graduated valedictorian from Maiden High School. One of ten children, Jack was the first in his family to go to college by earning a scholarship through his church to attend High Point College where he served as a Junior Marshall, Zenith associate business manager and a member of Order of the Lighted Lamp. Jack proudly served his country with the US Army before being employed as a Revenue Agent with the Internal Revenue Service, retiring in 1990 after a 30 year career. Jack and Linda were active members of both Epworth United Methodist Church in Durham, and then Benson Memorial United Methodist Church after relocating to Raleigh in 2001.
Jack was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, an avid UNC Tarheel fan and fisherman, and loved working in his yard. In recent years he enjoyed spending time at Carolina Beach with his family and had very special relationships with his grandchildren. Lovingly known to his family as "Papa Jack", he was quiet and unassuming yet strongly exemplified faithfulness, dependability, and integrity, and will be so deeply missed.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 2:00pm at Benson Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will be private in Raleigh Memorial Park.
