J. Edward Evans

J. Edward Evans, 67, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 surrounded by his family after a four year battle against stage IV lung cancer. He was born on April 13, 1949 in Wilmington, NC to the late John and Christine Stout Evans. After high school graduation, Edward entered into the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1977 after ten years of service. He was employed by IBM for 32 years, retiring within Software Management.

Edward and his wife, Linda, relocated to Raleigh in 1986 from Tampa, FL. He was an avid golfer and workout junkie, had a gift for gathering people together, and treasured his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda L. Evans; daughters: Christine Doudna, of Jacksonville, FL and Jennifer Mahoney and husband, Carlos, of Durham, NC; grandchildren: Tanner Doudna and wife, Lindsey, and Clara and Mathilda Mahoney; great-grandchildren: Noah, Jonah and Julia Grace Doudna; sisters: Jean Richardson and husband, Walter, of Raleigh, NC and Frances Bisset and husband, David, of Chapin, SC; niece: Alison Bisset; nephew: Mark Bisset; and by other family and friends, including his neighbors in Carolina Arbors.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 1:30-3:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, with funeral services to begin at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Graveside Services, with Military Honors, will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park.
