He was born September 6, 1932 in Hatvan, Hungary, son of Dr. Karoly and Anna Vanko Fister.
He was a graduate of Hatvan Gymnasium and the Budapest Institute of Technology. He attended the University of Strasbourg in France, Syracuse University and San Jose State as an Electrical Engineering Student.
He was employed in the Semiconductor Department of General Electric Co. for 29 years in Liverpool, NY; Auburn, NY; and in Research Triangle Park area of NC.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, former Loy Ann Seager whom he married on July 31, 1962 in the Celoron Methodist Church; two sons, Erik Harold of Cary, NC, and Stephen Antal of Apex, NC; seven grandchildren, Melody Lynn, Kathryn Anna, Warrick Louis, Charles Riley, Julianna Marie, Jada McKenzie, and Cole Patrick all residing in North Carolina; three brothers, Gyula, Jozsef, Akos; a sister, Margit all residing in Hungary, and another sister, Agnes Kovacs of Holliston, Mass.
Stephen is preceded in death by four brothers, Dr. Tibor, Karoly, Louis, Zsolt; and a sister, Ildiko.
In his life, he enjoyed playing tennis, water polo, listening to classical music, traveling, history, watching hockey, soccer, and his seven grandchildren.
Private services were held in the Mausoleum Chapel at Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family was assisted by Mitchell Funeral Home, Raleigh.
