Ben was born on February 5, 1950, in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Irvin Benjamin and Betty Kay Wesson Harris. He was educated at the Littleton School and graduated from East Carolina University. Ben owned and operated a Waffle House restaurant in Henderson before spending the rest of his career in several industries as a bookkeeper. Among those industries were H&R Block, the painting industry, hospitality at the Holiday Inn Downtown Raleigh, and ending his career in the automotive industry.
He was an avid NC State fan, and fan of all sports. Ben was known for recording all types of sports, including games he watched in person, so he could go back home and listen to what the sportscasters had to say. He enjoyed his time at Emerald Isle with his family, always looking forward to taking his boat on the Intercoastal waterway.
Ben was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, who is survived by his wife, Mary W. Harris, son, Spencer, and his wife, Meredith, of Raleigh, NC; grandson, Rowan Benjamin Harris; brother, Bonney Harris, and his wife, Annette, of Garner, NC; sister, Vada Oreshack, of Knightdale, NC; nieces, Lindsay, Kristina; and his nephew, Craig.
