Born June 13, 1924, to Ruth Badger Hall & Alton Carlyle Hall, Sr. in Raleigh, NC. Helen graduated from Broughton High School (Class of ’42), Meredith College (Class of ’46), and the Medical College of Virginia (Class of ’50). She interned in Charleston, SC (’51-’52), and completed her anesthesiology residency at Duke Hospital (’53-’55).
As one of the first female anesthesiologists on the east coast, Dr. Hall practiced at the V.A. Hospitals in Durham & High Point, and at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
She later worked as a Social Security & Disability medical consultant for Wake County Welfare and the State of North Carolina, until her retirement in 1989. For her dedication, she was given a Special Service Award from the Social Security Administration.
In 1972 she married Benjamin Bosse, who sadly passed away in 1979.
Helen loved to dance and was an avid ballroom dancer with Arthur Murray Dance Studios for many years, passing on her love by teaching line dancing at Springmoor. She was also a professional clown with the Jolly Raleigh Klown Alley for 10 years, where she brought smiles as “Sunny the Clown” with her signature sunflowers and creative balloon animals.
A lifetime member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church, Helen rang in the handbell choir and gave back to the community through Meals on Wheels and a variety of Springmoor initiatives and clubs.
Helen was a “50-Years Club” member of the Wake County Medical Society and Quota International Raleigh, and a 40+ year member of Beta Sigma Phi.
She would like to express her thanks to Dr. Wells Edmundson, Springmoor’s long-time medical director.
Helen is survived by her brother, Alton Carlyle Hall, Jr. (A.C., former City Planner of Raleigh, now at the Atlantis in Pine Knoll Shores) and her nephews Rick, Barry, and Tod Hall, and niece Donna Hall.
There will be a memorial service in the Springmoor Auditorium—1500 Sawmill Road (North Village)—on Saturday, September 30th, at 3:00pm.
Memorial gifts can be made in Helen’s name to Hayes Barton Baptist Church, Meredith College, or the Springmoor Endowment Fund.
