Guy Thomas Jones

Mr. Guy Thomas Jones, 87, known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, died August 12, 2014. He was born in Farmville, VA on April 27, 1927, the youngest of 5 children (4 boys and 1 girl) of the late Frank Oscar and Ella Gordon (Brown) Jones. Mr. Jones was raised on a dairy farm until joining the Navy. He served during WWII. After his Navy service, he worked for General Electric and then IBM. Mr. Jones retired from IBM after 30 years of service. He was transferred to NC in 1965, where he lived until his passing.

Mr. Jones enjoyed working in the yard, fixing clocks, and building in his shop. He especially loved his time with friends and family at Emerald Isle. Mr. Jones had a great sense of humor with “nicknames” for everybody. He will be greatly missed.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice Kerchner Jones; daughters, Julie Edwards and Betsy Huber; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, Katharine, and Patrick.

A memorial service will be held 11am on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1500 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27608, conducted by Pastor Walter Volz. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.
