Guy Joseph Harvey passed away in Raleigh, NC, on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer shortly after celebrating his 50th birthday in December. Guy’s comforting demeanor, humor, zest for life, and love for his Savior will forever inspire his many loyal friends, loving family, and numerous business associates he touched throughout his successful real estate career.
Guy will be affectionately remembered by his two precious girls, Brooke (14) and Blake (9), wife of 22 years, Donna, mother Lynda, younger brothers Clay (wife Meg) and Grady, nephews Hunter Harvey and Evan Sauer, and niece Allison Powell and uncles Stan (wife Judy) and their children Cassie, Myanna and Joia (husband Bob and their daughter Charlotte) and Bill (wife Noemi) and their children Carlo, Jermaine and Sophia. Guy was predeceased by his beloved father, Steven Guy Harvey of Wilmington, NC, in 2016, paternal grandparents Guy W. and Mona B. Harvey, and maternal grandparents Joseph B. and Lois M. McRae.
Born in Jacksonville, FL, Guy was raised in Wilmington, NC, where he grew up skateboarding, surfing, boating, and excelling at anything athletic. He attended East Carolina University where his natural leadership skills shined as President of Phi Kappa Tau and endeared him many life-long friends. Upon graduation with a degree in business, Guy pursued commercial real estate in Raleigh. He soon founded his own company and through its purchase became a partner in Roger Staubach’s 1,600 employee Dallas-based firm, later acquired by Jones Lang Lasalle. Guy’s direction will be missed by associates of his latest venture, real estate investment firm Palisades One, and as an Executive Committee Member of Inception Micro Angel Fund.
Anyone wanting a warm welcome, cold drink and whatever was sizzling on the grill needed to look no further than Guy’s backyard. Until his last day, the Harvey home continued to be a place of gathering, love and laughter for so many. Like his father, Guy had an acute awareness of other’s emotions, was a gifted listener, and had a talent for providing thoughtful and trusted advice.
A memorial and celebration of Guy’s life will be held Friday, January 19, at 11 a.m. at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church located at 2209 Fairview Road in Raleigh, NC, 27608. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Triangle Down Syndrome Network at www.tdsn.org.
