Grace Dixon Murray

Grace Dixon Murray, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 12, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Dixon and the beloved wife of the late Billy R Murray. She graduated from Wilton High School in 1947, and married her high school sweetheart on December 17, 1949. Grace and Billy opened their family drugstore, Murray’s Pharmacy on Poole Road in 1961. Grace and Billy worked side by side to make this a successful business. Grace, a loving wife, was devoted to her husband of 58 years. Together they raised two sons. Grace loved her grandchildren, and her only great grandchild always brought a smile to her face.

Later in life, Grace became a licensed real estate agent. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, antiques, and watching birds and wildlife in her backyard from her kitchen window.

Surviving are her sons: William R. Murray (wife Christy) of Wilmington and Michael D. Murray (wife Lanie) of Fuquay Varina; grandchildren Ryan Murray and Suzanne Doble (husband Jon), and great-grandson Micah, all of Fuquay Varina; and long-time friend, sister-in-spirit, Francis Moore of Wilson.

Family visitation will be Tuesday March 17, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday March 18 at 11 am at Brown Wynne. Burial to follow at Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh.
