It is with heavy hearts that we share that Gladys "Rose" Street Buchanan, 95, of Hillsborough passed away on September 24, 2024, at UNC Hospital. Rose was the daughter of Joel and Nova Street.
Rose was born on January 2, 1929, and raised in Benson, NC. She lived there until 1942, when she moved to Raleigh. She was a graduate of Broughton High School. A few years after graduation, she met her would-be husband, James, Sr. and they were married in 1949.
They lived in Raleigh until James was transferred to Chapel Hill in 1968 with what was known then as Public Service Company of NC (PSNC), a natural gas utility company.
Rose was a full-time homemaker after the birth of her children. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and having weekly bible studies in her home. She made an awesome chocolate cake! In addition to her love of chocolate, she loved the color red. At one point, she even had the shutters on her house painted red.
In 2021, Rose moved to TerraBella Assisted Living in Hillsborough, where she could be helped with daily living by staff, family, and trusted personal care assistants, Terrisha Blackwell and Barbara Riggsbee. Thanks to everyone for their loving care.
Rose is predeceased by her parents; her husband; two sons, Stuart Donald Buchanan and David Lynn Buchanan; and her great-grandson, Jonathan Buchanan.
She is survived by two brothers, David Street and Donald Street (wife, Lynette) and a sister, Doris Street; three children, James Gray Buchanan Jr. (wife, Ronda), Charles Kenneth Buchanan and Doris Ann Buchanan; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, September 30,2024 at 10:30 am at Mitchell Funeral Home at 7209 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to South Orange Rescue Squad at 202 Roberson St., Carrboro NC, 27510.
Peace be with you.
