Fred Karl Frederiksen, 45, of Raleigh, passed away suddenly on January 7, 2014. He died at Rex Hospital, in Raleigh, NC after a brief case of pneumonia that was complicated by his compromised immune system due to a liver transplant at age 21.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Marie Frederiksen; two daughters, Amanda (16 years) and Macy (12 years); his parents, John and Beth Frederiksen of Ocala , Florida; a sister, Kim Neville, and her husband, John of Plainfield, Illinois; a niece and nephew, Sara and Connor Neville. Fred is also survived by three aunts and uncles; Terry and Karen Frederiksen, of Wales, Wisconsin; Dick and Cathy Smith of Henderson, Nevada; and Steve and Lynn Fox of Crowley, Texas and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by a sister, Crystal Frederiksen, and two grandmothers, Sadie Oaks and Dorothy Smith.
Fred graduated from Moline High School in 1987 and valued his continued relationship with a close group of friends. Following high school, Fred moved to Plainfield, IL with his family where he met his future wife, Anne Fischbach.
In 1990, the gift of organ donation gave Fred an extra 24 years of life that allowed him to finish college and graduate from Northern Illinois University with a BA in Psychology in 1993. Most importantly, this gift provided the blessing of a 20 year marriage and two beautiful daughters; both of whom he adored and were the center of his life. He loved spending time with his family and looked forward to annual visits from his sister and her family at Lake Gaston, where he took his niece and nephew boating, skiing and tubing. He loved hearing them squeal with delight when he took them for adventurous rides making the water splash over their heads.
He was grateful for the unconditional love and support of his parents and enjoyed visiting them in Florida. Fred was so pleased that his Dad was able to accomplish his dream of owning an RV and traveling around the US, in his retirement.
Despite his physical infirmities, he rarely complained and lived life to the fullest. His life was cut far too short and he will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
A visitation will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Gl3enwood Ave., Raleigh, NC on Friday, January 10, from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11AM, at Mitchell Funeral Home with burial immediately following at Raleigh Memorial Park.
