Frank Poydras Powers Jr.

Frank is survived by his wife of 28 years, Nancy Bowen Powers and his daughter, Kathryn (Katy) Bowen Powers, the joy of his life. He is also survived by six nephews and nieces, Ken Hines, Jr., Becky Hines Boyette, Albert F. May, Frank P. May, Mary Miller May Wheeler and Gregory R. Lipa, as well as a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frank is predeceased by his sisters, Rebecca Powers Hines and her husband Ken, and Mary Miller Powers May and her husband Albert.

Frank was a graduate of Needham Broughton High School, class of 1965 and Campbell College. In addition, Frank served in the US Army Reserves. Frank was a landscape contractor for many years in the Raleigh area. He enjoyed working outside and working with and for many wonderful people.

Golf was his favorite game, and he played and enjoyed it with family and friends all his life. He won numerous city and county championships and several other local and country club championships. As an avid sports fan, he was known to be especially loyal to Wake Forest University.

He was a member of Carolina Country Club, the Lamplighters Club and other clubs with his wife, Nancy.

Frank was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Raleigh, where he loved to attend and worship. He was a deacon, a member of the Unity Sunday School class and worked with various committees.

Frank enjoyed meeting and talking to people wherever he went. He never met a stranger. He would urge you to be good to each other, love one another, enjoy the time you have with your family and friends, and to be very thankful for what we have here in America.

Frank’s wish was for everyone to go play nine holes after the service.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 7th at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 99 N Salisbury St. Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be private at Oakwood Cemetery.
