Lt. Col. Frank James Jamison Jr. ( US Army - Ret. ) was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on August 29, 1940, to the late Frank James Jamison and Dorothy Mae Willis. He passed away Sunday, Sept 2, 2018 at Falls River Village and Court in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Frank confessed Christ at an early age at the King Solomon Baptist Church in Fort Smith Arkansas. He later joined Mt. Calvary Christian Church in Tuskegee, Alabama where he served as a deacon and treasurer for many years.
Frank graduated from Lincoln High School in Fort Smith Arkansas and Tuskegee Institute where he received his B.S. degree in Biology and Health Education in 1965. On January 1, 1966 he was united in holy matrimony to Minnie Capleton Jamison, who preceded him in death. As a young man, Frank joined the United States Army Reserve obtaining the rank of Lt. Col. and earned several U.S. Army service awards for his role in Operation Desert Storm.
Frank’s professional career began as a Registered Medical Technologist at the Veterans Administration Hospital where he worked tirelessly for 30 years. He served as a Representative for the American Federation of Government Employees advocating for the rights of government employees. Frank’s love for educating others afforded him the opportunity to become an instructor at Southern Vocational College in Tuskegee, Alabama where he taught Hematology and Chemistry. Upon retiring, he found solace in mentoring youth, substitute teaching at Macon County Schools, serving on the board of Tuskegee University’s School of Veterinary Medicine Animal Rights Committee, and as a volunteer with the American Red Cross.
Frank loved life and moved amongst his family and friends with dignity and respect. He never met a stranger and would always offer a helping hand. He possessed intelligence with effort, encouragement with love, respected friendship with loyalty, and remained true to his beliefs.
Frank leaves to cherish his memories; one daughter, Stephanie Jamison; one son, Steven Jamison, Raleigh, N.C.; one granddaughter, Jordan Jamison, Raleigh, North Carolina; one sister, Dolly Garrett, Los Angeles, California; one brother, John Wesley Phillips Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at 11am at Mt. Calvary Missionary Christian Church, 1504 Bruce St. Tuskegee, Alabama. A viewing or visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 7th from 2pm - 6pm at McKenzie's Funeral Home, 1509 Notasulga Rd.,Tuskegee, Alabama. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Tuskegee.
