Floyd Mitchell Hunter, 97, passed away Saturday, April 16, in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Mr. Hunter was born in Raleigh November 11, 1913 to Walter and Mattie Green Hunter. He lived his entire life in Raleigh, until moving to Lawrenceville in 2007 to be near his daughters.
Mr. Hunter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Virginia Liles Hunter, and his siblings, Josephine Hunter Holding, Thomas Hunter, and Macon Hunter.
He is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Sarah Johnson (Richard), Martha Hunter, Mary Hudson (Joseph), and Ruth Parker (Joel). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hunter was a dedicated public servant and retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 30 years. He was also a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh.
The family would like to thank Kemi Ogunmuyiwa for her kind care of Mr. Hunter during his last years.
Memorial services will be under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, April 21 at 11:0o’clock at the funeral home chapel, 7209 Glenwood Avenue with interment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at 10 o’clock in the chapel.
