Faye Ridout Bruton was born on November 7, 1941 in Bracey, Virginia. She lived her childhood and adult life in Raleigh until 2017 after which she joined her husband, Dr. Charles Bruton in Fremont, North Carolina until her death. During this time, she maintained her home in Raleigh as well. Faye was the third of five children born to Ishmael and Mozelle Ridout.
Faye was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband, William Leroy Barker and brother Linwood Drewery Ridout.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Charles, her sisters Carol Lovette of Raleigh and Peggy Kladke of Atlanta, brother Benny Ridout, of Apex and sister-in-law Kaye Barker of Gatesville. Faye was also the caring mother to Will’s three children, Teresa Barker Bunch, Lee Barker and David Barker. Faye was a dear friend to so many. She was devoted to her Lord, her church, her family, and her friends. At Christ Baptist she was a Charter member and faithful member of her church choir, a regular member of the Seekers Sunday School Class, and a group leader in the Saltshakers Bible Study program. She also participated in BSF for 10 years.
Faye graduated from Broughton High School and attended Hardbargers Business School receiving a degree in Secretarial Science. She worked five years at N C State University, first in the Industrial and Technical Education Department and later in the Entomology Department. She also served as Administrative Assistant to the Honorable Dan Blue in the North Carolina Legislature Branch before working and retiring from the North Carolina Department of Transportation in 2003. Away from work Faye’s hobbies included decorating cooking, reading, visiting the beach and caring for her cat and Charles’ two boxers. Faye and Charles married in 2017after losing their spouses. Faye especially enjoyed attending various NC State sporting events with Charles. Notable domestic and international travel experiences were a highlight of their 5+ year marriage.
Funeral service will be held Monday, July 10th at 11 AM at Christ Baptist Church in Raleigh with Associate Pastor Kim Faucette officiating. Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC at 1:30 PM following the celebration of Faye’s life.
