Emily (Carr) Thornton Tew went home to be with the Lord December 22, 2011. She joined her husband of 34 years, Norwood Thornton, and parents Ed and Cara Carr, who preceded her in death. Emily was born in Newton Grove, NC on June 2, 1926. She married Norwood in 1944 and they made Raleigh their home in the late 1940s.
Emily is survived by her four daughters; Linda Hayden of Silver Spring, MD, Bonnie Baker of Raleigh, June Weaver of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Edna Brannan of Manassas, VA, along with nine grandchildren; Kimberly, Tara, Jonathan, Rob, Dave, Greg, Ryan, Russell, and Todd, and 11 great grandchildren. She also is survived by brothers Delbert Carr and wife, Betty, and W. A. Carr.
Emily was dearly loved by her family and friends and will always be missed. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on December 27, 2011 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 am. Graveside service will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
Afterwards, family and friends are invited to gather at Emily’s home.
