Born August 27, 1920 in Albany, NY, to Robert and Dorothy McPherrin, she grew up in Norfolk, VA. Elizabeth was the eldest sister of Jean Morris and Robert (Alec) McPherrin. She married Charles (Kenny) Sawyer on September 12, 1950. They had three children Lawrence Sawyer, Barbara Sawyer and Betsy Futrell and settled in Raleigh in 1960, where Libba has enjoyed living ever since.
A retired secretary for the Wake County Public School System, she enjoyed the visual arts and loved crafts including sewing, cross stitching, needlepoint and knitting. Libba was a prolific reader and enjoyed reading the newspaper and a wide range of fiction. Additionally, she was an avid gardener, planting and grooming violets as well as maintaining a well-manicured yard. Her social circle revolved around bridge groups that met throughout the month and played for the love of the game.
Elizabeth will be sadly missed but never forgotten by her loving children and their spouses: Lawrence and Debra Sawyer, Tim Tolson (Barbara) and Betsy and James Futrell, grandchildren Heather (Keith) Bryant and Caroline Sawyer, and great-grandchildren Aaliyah, Arianna, Selina and Makayla. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenny Sawyer, brother Alec and daughter Barbara.
Always loved, Elizabeth will be missed by many.
Memorial services will be held at the Springmoor Chapel, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh on Saturday, June 6 at 2:00 P.M.
