Betty was born on August 26, 1933 in Mount Sterling, Kentucky and moved through Kentucky and North Carolina as her father was a horse trainer and was the seed for her love for all animals. She graduated from Greensboro College and afterwards began a career in dance instruction at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Later, she owned and managed the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Raleigh, NC. She moved the location to Capital Blvd and grew the business to a new success in the mid 80’s. Betty retired in the early 90’s and devoted herself to volunteer work with the Raleigh Rescue Mission, Wake County Republican Women’s Association and countless volunteer efforts through her church, St. Andrews Presbyterian in Raleigh, NC, as well as helping with her grandchildren whenever she could possibly do so, and she did so in many ways; teaching them art, games, laughter and much more…
Betty Plummer lived life in joyous ways, always positive, always upbeat. She lit up a room just being present and being there. Her love for Jesus was Big! Betty loved him so. She was a petite woman, but fierce in her joy, her protectiveness of those she loved dearest, and she glowed with her positive attitude of life! Betty was full of Grace: grace for those that needed help, grace for those that needed healing and forgiveness, grace to help others in need. She even walked gracefully, I guess it was the dancer in her.
But her laugh could not be equaled anywhere! Anyone that knew her, remembers her infectious laugh: a simply joyous laugh that got your attention, just…. pure, uplifting Joy. It drew people to her to see what that joy was about. It was just her, and her outlook on life. We haven’t heard that big laugh from her the past few years, but since she has passed, it’s all we hear now!
