Elizabeth “Betty Jean” Crawford Pearson of Raleigh, NC was received into glory on September 28, 2020. Betty Jean was born February 16, 1946 in Rocky Mount, NC to Janie and Truxton Crawford. She grew up in Ahoskie and was an active member of Ahoskie First Baptist until she began her studies at Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC.
Betty Jean graduated from a joint program of nursing between Chowan College and Duke University School of Nursing in 1967 as a Registered Nurse. She met her true love, Phillip Pearson, during her time at Chowan. They were married on September 2, 1967 at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie NC.
Besides her dedication as a wife and mother, Betty Jean was a leader in Women’s Aglow in the 70’s and 80’s and attended women’s Bible studies in each of her home churches. She always loved being a part of missions and went on ministry trips to both China and Kenya. Proverbs 31 provides a good description of our diligent wife, mother and sister.
Phil and Betty Jean were founding members of Christ Chapel and later became active members of North Haven Church, both in Raleigh. Betty Jean’s ministries at First Baptist in Merritt Island included teaching ESL classes and Titus Two women’s fellowship. When the couple moved back to Raleigh in 2011, Phil and Betty Jean enjoyed warm fellowship at Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Greatly appreciated was the ministry of this fellowship during the past four years of Betty Jean’s decline. The body of Christ truly exhibits the love for one another that is taught throughout the New Testament.
Betty Jean is survived by her husband of 53 years and two sons, David Pearson (wife, Theresa) and Michael Pearson, along with her three grandchildren, Matthew, Caroline, and Michael Tre.
