

Betsy Kimrey, 66, of Raleigh, N.C. peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 after she bravely battled a progressive neurological disorder, CMT, throughout a major portion of her life. She was born on March 21, 1946 in Raleigh to Donald and Ann Kimrey.
Betsy is a native of Raleigh and graduated from Broughton High School. Betsy then attended Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, GA., where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. She then earned her Doctorate at Duke University. She worked as a Psychologist for over 30 years. In those 30 years, she worked as a supervisor of the Child and Adolescent Program at Dorothea Dix Hospital, and Lenox Baker Children’s Hospital in Durham. After leaving Durham she then opened her own private practice for a while before her retirement at the NCSU Counseling Center.
Betsy loved to travel and enjoyed going to her cabin in the mountains. Her favorite place to visit was the Grand Canyon and she loved her cocker spaniels. She will be remembered as an intelligent, fearlessly independent woman who overcame her disabilities with much determination. She will be missed by everyone blessed to have known her.
Betsy is preceded in death by her brother, Tim Kimrey and her parents.
Betsy is survived by her niece, Erin Kimrey; cousins, Willis “Bill” Kimrey and his wife Ellen and David Kimrey and his wife Gail, and Joie Kimrey Black. Betsy is also survived by her Best Friend and companion for many years, cocker spaniel, Sadie.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hands Together (http://www.handstogether.org). This organization provides educational opportunities to poor children in Haiti, which was a passion for Betsy.
